Establishment of the “Gulf Association for Libraries, Information and Archives” (GALIA)

It has been agreed to establish a new scientific and professional body under the name “Gulf Association for Libraries, Information and Archives” (GALIA). This new association will play a significant role in unifying scientific and professional efforts within this vital field. The official English name, Gulf Association for Libraries, Information and Archives (GALIA), has been adopted to affirm its regional and international presence and to enhance its engagement with global forums in the field.
The establishment of this association comes in response to the rapid developments in the libraries, information, and archives sector, aiming to provide a pioneering professional platform that brings together specialists, researchers, and stakeholders. It will enable the exchange of expertise and knowledge, foster joint initiatives, and work to raise the level of professional practices in line with the best international standards.
The association will also be dedicated to supporting research and studies, organizing scientific events and conferences, and publishing specialized bulletins and periodicals, thereby contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and the advancement of modern information tools.
The association’s statutes are scheduled to be ratified during a meeting to be held, God willing, in Jeddah, where the official launch of the new association will be declared. Following this, the association will commence its active role in serving the scientific and professional community in the Gulf region and the Arab world, in alignment with its objectives and mission of building an integrated and advanced knowledge society.
